Pennswood Village - Campus Back-up Generator

Client: Pennswood Village, Newtown, PA
Contractor: Carr and Duff, Huntingdon Valley, PA
AEI was retained by Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA to develop a plan and design for a campus back-up generator. AEI analyzed the feasibility of a community wide site back-up generator, including a financial and logistical comparison of utilizing the generator as a cogeneration source for water heating. AEI's final design was a 2.5 Megawatt Diesel Generator located at the rear of the property. The generator is powered by a 16 cylinder Caterpillar Diesel Engine, complete with a 5000 gallon sub-base fuel tank and sound enclosure.
This generator once commissioned will allow Pennswood Village to have full campus back-up power for up to 24 hours before re-fueling is necessary. Pennswood Village will also have the ability to reduce peak demand by coming off of the PECO power grid. In addition to the site back-up generator, AEI designed and oversaw the construction of a new campus medium voltage distribution system which included new ductbanks, conduits and distribution cable.
